Meta recently hosted its inaugural Creator Braai in South Africa, welcoming over 200 content creators to the iconic Level Three venue in Johannesburg. The event celebrated South African creativity and digital innovation, highlighting Meta’s latest tools and monetization opportunities while honouring the country’s vibrant braai culture.
The full-day event offered hands-on workshops with Instagram Edits, Meta’s AI-powered video editing app, enabling creators to transform content with over 50 style presets. Attendees also received detailed training on Facebook monetization programmes, including In-stream Ads, Facebook Stars, and Subscriptions. Creators explored Threads for community building and WhatsApp Channels for direct audience engagement.

“South African creators are among the most innovative and authentic storytellers on our platforms,” said Moon Baz, Director of Global Partnerships: Africa, Middle East, and Turkey at Meta. “Today’s Creator Braai celebrates that creativity while equipping our creators with the tools to turn their passion into sustainable livelihoods. From AI-powered editing with Instagram Edits to new monetisation opportunities on Facebook, we remain committed to supporting the next generation of South African digital entrepreneurs.”

Cutting-edge AI tools meet South African culture
The event featured Meta AI, showcasing how creators can use the tool to generate captions, spark ideas, and enhance workflow. In a fireside chat, Mpho_Pink and Kezia Anim-Addo demonstrated how AI streamlines content creation while preserving authenticity.
Complementing the workshops, creators enjoyed live performances from local artists and explored dedicated activation zones:
- Facebook Oasis – training on monetization strategies

- Edits Exploration Bar – hands-on video editing experience
- Threads Social Zone – community engagement strategies
Brand partnerships and premium experiences
Brand partnership zones featured Garnier, L’Oréal Paris, and Superbalist, offering beauty tutorials, product sampling, and branded giveaways. A dedicated group chat lounge gave creators direct access to Meta team members for personalised guidance and feedback.
Expanding Africa’s creator economy
The Creator Braai continues Meta’s commitment to supporting creators across Sub-Saharan Africa. Events in Nigeria and Ghana engaged over 1,000 creators, offering tools and training to build sustainable businesses.
