A new chapter in female entrepreneurship is unfolding as the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award returns for its fourth year in South Africa. This award recognises the visionaries, trailblazers, and risk-takers who are transforming industries and redefining success on their terms.

Building a legacy: empowering women through the Veuve Clicquot initiative
Since its inception in 1972, the Bold Woman Award has honoured over 450 remarkable women worldwide, showcasing leaders who not only excel in business but also drive meaningful conversations on a global scale. Inspired by the trailblazing Madame Clicquot, who defied the conventions of her time in the early 1800s, these awards not only celebrate her legacy but also continue to honour the spirit of innovation, resilience, and audacity that she embodied.
Madame Clicquot, just 27 years old when she took charge of the Maison, became a pioneer in the champagne industry, introducing groundbreaking concepts like vintage champagne and the riddling table. Her legacy serves as a powerful blueprint for modern female entrepreneurs, demonstrating the impact of bold leadership.
Two distinct categories for emerging and established leaders
In 2025, the Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award will continue to celebrate women’s achievements through two distinct categories:
- The Bold Woman Award: This category targets established leaders, specifically those who have run their businesses for more than five years.
- The Bold Future Award: This award supports rising entrepreneurs who have been in business for less than five years.
Both categories highlight women who challenge the status quo, drive change, and contribute positively to their industries.
Why the Bold International Barometer matters
Veuve Clicquot is committed to empowering women in business through insightful initiatives like the Veuve Clicquot Bold International Barometer. Launched in 2019, this groundbreaking study tracks the evolution of female entrepreneurship worldwide, offering vital insights into the challenges and achievements of women leaders.
Notably, South Africa is witnessing a surge in female entrepreneurship. In 2023, a remarkable 61% of South African women identified as entrepreneurs, particularly among those aged 20 to 29. This trend defies a global slowdown, positioning South Africa as a key player in the realm of female-driven business.
