The British streetwear label has opened its first store on the continent in Cape Town, with Sandton City next in line. For local fans who have been ordering from overseas for years, things just got much simpler.
Represent Is Now in SA
If you’ve seen the Represent logo on someone at a festival, in a shopping queue or on your feed, you already know South Africans have been wearing the brand for a while. Until recently, getting it meant ordering online from overseas and waiting. That changed on 15 August 2026, when Represent opened its first African flagship store at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
The store is on the Upper Level of the Waterfront, at Shop 7217. It’s the British label’s first permanent home on the continent and the start of a wider push into Africa.

Who Is Represent?
For anyone just catching up: brothers George and Michael Heaton founded Represent in 2011. Over the last decade and a bit, it has grown from a British label into an internationally recognised name in luxury streetwear, known for premium craftsmanship and considered design.
Represent also crosses over into performance wear. The Cape Town store has a dedicated space for 247, the brand’s range of performance pieces and elevated everyday essentials, next to its latest collections. That mix suits how a lot of people dress now, where gym wear, travel wear and going out wear overlap more than ever.
Shimza Joins the Venture
The local partnership is where this story gets interesting. Entrepreneur Victor Barbosa and his business partner Byron Ryan are leading Represent’s expansion into Africa, bringing their experience of the South African retail landscape. They are joined by DJ Shimza, real name Ashley Raphala, who comes on board as a partner and has long admired the brand.
This matters because Shimza is a business partner here, not a paid face. For a brand entering a new market, having someone with real cultural influence involved in the venture gives it a credibility with South African audiences that a billboard can’t.
It also fits a wider pattern. South African music and creative figures increasingly hold equity and decision making roles in the brands they’re linked to, rather than just appearing in campaigns.
What the Brand Says
George Heaton was clear that the decision was based on what the brand had already seen from South African customers.
“South Africa has developed a strong appreciation for premium streetwear, and we believe this is the right time to introduce the physical Represent experience to both the community that already knows and supports us and a new generation discovering the brand for the first time,” he said. “Together with our local partners, we look forward to building something truly special.”
Inside the Cape Town Store
London based Scratch Creative designed the space in collaboration with Raph and Matt Fitters. They translated Represent’s international store identity for its first African location, keeping the clean, premium look the brand is known for.
Choosing the V&A Waterfront makes sense too. It is one of South Africa’s most established fashion and lifestyle destinations and draws both locals and international visitors, so it is an easy first stop for a global brand.
When Is Represent Opening in Sandton?
Johannesburg doesn’t have long to wait. Represent’s second South African store opens at Sandton City in October 2026, taking the brand to one of the country’s busiest retail destinations and to a Joburg audience that has always taken style seriously.
There is more coming online as well. Represent will launch an official South African website towards the end of 2026, so customers across the country will be able to shop the brand locally and won’t have to order from overseas.
Why It Matters
Represent’s arrival is a sign that international brands now see South Africa as a market worth investing in properly, with physical stores, local partners and a dedicated website, not just a delivery destination. Local demand made that case before a single store opened. For South Africa’s streetwear generation, a brand they used to follow from a distance is now one they can walk into, in Cape Town now and in Sandton very soon.
