South African designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee brings his signature world of couture, craftsmanship and modern luxury to a permanent retail space at Winifred Mandela Shopping Centre. The new boutique gives shoppers their first opportunity to step directly into the designer’s world and shop his collections in a permanent retail environment. It also brings together fashion, accessories, fragrance and sculptural interior design under one roof.
Rather than feeling like a traditional shop, the space has been designed as an extension of the Gert-Johan Coetzee brand. Garments sit against a refined marble palette, while aubergine accents add warmth and a distinctive touch to the interior.
“Establishing a physical home for our design universe is a dream come true,” says Coetzee. “Every detail of this boutique, from the garments on display to the architectural surfaces surrounding them, has been curated with meticulous care.”

More than just a place to shop
The boutique offers a curated selection of ready-to-wear pieces, dresses, gowns and casualwear, alongside accessories and limited-edition collectables created specifically for the Bryanston store. Fashion lovers can also explore the designer’s luxury Ndlovu handbags, which are available in-store and on demand, as well as his newly launched fragrance collection.
And for those who prefer a more personal experience, private shopping appointments allow clients to browse the collections with dedicated styling and one-on-one attention.
“Our goal with the private shopping experience is to offer clients an intimate, elevated environment where they receive our complete and undivided attention,” says Ofentse Marobane, Head of Retail at Gert-Johan Coetzee.

A fragrance filled opening weekend
To celebrate the launch, the brand is hosting a fragrance activation from 18 to 20 September, positioned directly outside the new boutique. Visitors to Winifred Mandela Shopping Centre can explore and test the complete Gert-Johan Coetzee fragrance range, making it a chance to experience another side of the designer’s universe.
Where fashion meets stone
The boutique’s interiors also highlight a collaboration with Interslab, which joins the launch as the Official Surface Partner. Interslab supplied the premium stone surfaces used throughout the space, from marble furniture to structural wall finishes. The result creates an interesting conversation between fashion and architecture, with the clothing almost becoming part of the interior itself.
“When creating a space meant to represent permanence and craftsmanship, choosing Interslab to execute our surface vision was a natural choice,” says Coetzee. For a designer whose work has long played with drama, structure and glamour, having a physical space to bring all those elements together feels like a natural next chapter. And now, Bryanston has a little more couture on its doorstep.
