Instant photography continues to thrive in an increasingly digital world, and Fujifilm‘s latest launch proves that consumers still value tangible memories. The company has expanded its popular Instax range with the introduction of the Instax Mini 13, alongside a significant artificial intelligence (AI) update to the Instax UP! app.
Together, the new camera and app enhancements reflect Fujifilm’s commitment to combining the charm of analogue photography with the convenience of modern technology.

Instax mini 13
The Instax Mini 13 succeeds the much-loved Mini 12, which debuted in 2023. Designed for simplicity, the camera allows users to load a film cartridge, switch it on and start shooting within seconds. Fujifilm has retained the ease of use that made the Mini range a favourite among casual photographers while introducing several new features to enhance the overall experience.
Visually, the Mini 13 adopts a refreshed design with a softer, sculpted body and a metallic silver logo that gives the camera a more contemporary appearance. Fujifilm offers the camera in five colourways: Candy Pink, Clay White, Frost Blue, Dreamy Purple and Lagoon Green.

Notable Additions
Among the most notable additions are the new dual timer settings, which provide two-second and 10-second countdown options. The feature makes it easier for photographers to join group photographs rather than remain behind the camera. Fujifilm says the shorter timer setting also helps users capture sharper selfies with less blur.
The company has also introduced a wedge-shaped angle adjustment accessory attached to the camera strap. This practical addition allows users to prop up the camera for group photographs, making hands-free shooting more accessible.
Fujifilm has retained many features that Instax users already enjoy, including Close-Up Mode, a built-in Selfie Mirror and Auto Exposure capabilities. The camera also incorporates Parallax Correction technology, which helps align the viewfinder with the lens when users shoot at close range. This feature improves framing accuracy and creates more centred photographs, particularly for selfies and close-up portraits.
Automatic flash control further enhances image quality by adapting to different lighting conditions, whether users shoot indoors, outdoors or in low-light environments.
Beyond the camera itself, Fujifilm has strengthened the digital side of the Instax ecosystem through a significant update to the Instax UP! smartphone app. The app allows users to scan and store physical Instax prints digitally, creating a convenient archive of their favourite photographs.

Artificial intelligence
The latest update introduces AI-powered scanning technology that more accurately identifies the edges of physical prints and separates them from surrounding backgrounds. As a result, users can create cleaner, more precise digital copies of their instant photographs.
To celebrate the launch, Fujifilm has also unveiled the new Instax Mini Sprinkles instant film. Featuring colourful rainbow-inspired borders, the film adds an extra layer of creativity and fun to the traditional Instax format.
The Instax Mini 13 is available at selected retailers for a recommended retail price of R1,749, while the Instax Mini 13 Kit, which includes the camera, a protective case and a pack of Mini film, retails for R2,199.
With the Mini 13 and the enhanced Instax UP! app, Fujifilm continues to bridge the gap between physical and digital photography, offering users the best of both worlds while ensuring instant photography remains as relevant as ever.
