Jill Scott Honoured by Billboard Ahead of South African Tour

Three-time GRAMMY Award winner Jill Scott has been inducted into the Billboard R&B Hall of Fame, adding another milestone to a career that has helped shape contemporary R&B and neo-soul.

Scott received the honour on 9 September in New York, following her appearance as a panellist at a Billboard House conversation at Ludlow House. Later that evening, she was formally presented with the award at the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players 2026 event by Billboard senior charts and data analyst Trevor Anderson.

For Scott, the recognition came as an emotional surprise.

“I felt shock, gratefulness, excitement, mostly shock,” she said of the honour. “I don’t take these things for granted; it’s still a shock to me that anybody knows, loves and appreciates my music.”

The induction arrives just weeks before Scott brings her To Whom This May Concern World 2026 Tour to South Africa, where the singer will close out the local leg with performances in Pretoria and Cape Town.

Her South African dates are set for Saturday, 7 November at SunBet Arena, Time Square in Pretoria, followed by Wednesday, 11 November at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town. Both concerts begin at 20h00, with doors opening at 19h00.

A career built on collaboration

Scott’s Billboard recognition also carries a personal connection. She was honoured alongside The Roots, who were named 2026 Hip-Hop Hall of Fame honourees.

The relationship between Scott and the legendary hip-hop group stretches back decades. She co-wrote and featured on The Roots’ 1999 classic “You Got Me”, a collaboration that became an important moment in her early career.

Reflecting on their time together during the Billboard House conversation, Scott recalled touring with the group and learning what life on the road could offer.

“They opened their doors and let me find out about what touring meant,” she said, adding that the experience helped her understand both what she wanted and what she did not want from the touring life.

A new chapter for Jill Scott

Scott’s latest achievement comes during another significant period in her career.

Released in February 2026, To Whom This May Concern marks her first studio album in more than a decade. The project features collaborations with Tierra Whack, Trombone Shorty, JID, Too $hort and Ab-Soul and debuted inside the top 10 of seven Billboard charts.

Its single “Pressha” also gave Scott her first Adult R&B Airplay chart-topper in almost 13 years.

Now, the album’s story will reach its South African chapter.

Scott has previously performed in the country in 2013 and 2024 in Johannesburg, as well as in Durban in 2017. Her upcoming concerts mark her fourth visit to South Africa.

Showtime Management’s Tony Feldman says Scott has a particular ability to make large-scale performances feel personal.

“Jill Scott’s shows feel personal and intimate – she has a knack of reaching her fans and resonating with them in the way that she tells stories through music,” he says.

Greg Maloka of GRIZA Enterprises similarly describes the South African concerts as the grand finale of the To Whom This May Concern World 2026 Tour, particularly following the international response to Scott’s latest music.

For South African audiences, the November concerts promise more than a run through a celebrated catalogue. Scott’s performances are known for combining musicianship, storytelling and the unmistakable warmth of her voice — a combination that has helped make her one of neo-soul’s enduring voices.
